I started growing my instagram account almost 5 years ago. Then, I not only became a small business owner, I started working with and being an advocate for local businesses everywhere. Whether it is sharing the work of designers, artists, shops, restaurants, bars, travel & lifestyle brands, supporting small businesses always gave me a greater sense of fulfilment - It’s a hard time for small and local businesses right now. In this unprecedented time, a lot of these businesses are struggling to survive and amongst which, those in F&B are one of the hardest hit. While many F&B operators (who were able to make the switch in time) have ramped up on takeaway options, these orders only help to supplement already falling revenues (from consumers tightening their belts), it unfortunately does not replace their former dine-in sales. That means, OUR favourite restaurants, bars, pubs and coffee shops are hanging on by a thread; many of which may cease to operate, should the circuit breaker period extend further. - @Tigerbeersg is launching the ‘Support Our Local F&B’ initiative to help local businesses in the F&B industry overcome the financial challenges caused by COVID-19. Tiger has started by donating $100,000 of seed funding into this initiative. From now till 31 May, you can join me in helping our local F&B community by making a small contribution of $10 (or more) to this fund. You’ll be able to see your contributions, and that of fellow contributors, reflected on a live counter showing the total amount raised for ‘Support Our Local F&B’. All proceeds will go directly to the participating F&B operators. - As a gesture of appreciation from Tiger, each contribution will entitle consumers to a digital drink voucher redeemable for 2 Tiger beers at their outlet of choice, when it resumes operations. Counting down the days till I can prance happily around while grocery shopping to FULLY STOCKED shelves 😭 • Meanwhile, I’ve been busy levelling up my cooking and baking skills. WATCH EVERY SUNSET • Now that most of us are self-isolating at home, that means that we have much more time on our hands to check off all the things that we could never get to in our daily grind. If watching sunsets were one of them, I hope you get to watch more sunsets than Netflix. After all, if you’re bored out of your mind or losing your marbles from WFH, nature never fails to deliver a more gratifying return on experience. So find a window with the best views, watch from your front porch, or even take a walk outdoors to an open field. And if it still doesn’t make your day feel better, remember this, “every sunset is an opportunity to reset” - tomorrow will be a better day. LUMBERJANE IN THE MAKING, but really just letting my imaginations run wild (like literally) 🪓 Making the most of my spare time, during these social distancing days, really easing in to the idea of slowing down and making time to live. I’ve always felt a disconnect from the term “slow living”, especially since I would find myself growing impatient with spare time (finding new projects to fill my time with). Never a homebody, I embrace spontaneous adventures, painting the town, and living for being in the fast lane. As I’ve committed to staying home as much as possible, I suddenly have the luxury of time to cook up a storm in the kitchen, reconnect with my love for baking, wine-(🍷)ing down to soulful music, reading enriching books, organising the home, and other homely things. Admittedly, it feels somewhat selfish to be enjoying the luxury of time to appreciate living slow, when the world is in crisis mode and mortality rates shoot through the roof. But I really have to say, I feel like I’m breathing and living for the first time in a long time 🪓 I wanna hear from you. How are you handling this stay at home period? Never taking travelling or being in the great outdoors ever for granted • Eternally grateful to have visited Italy late last September. Even now as I look back upon my trip to the south, I only have the warmest memories of being by the most incredible landscapes, watching the sun set against the glistening ocean, meeting friendly locals who may not have adequately been able to speak English yet wholeheartedly and unselfishly showed us a good time, learning about the South’s fascinating mafioso past, and the endless glorious food and drinks I had the pleasure of enjoying. Not that I’d taken travelling for granted before, but I know that the next time I do, I’ll be savouring every second of it. HOMEWORK OUT for Full Body (swipe 👈🏼) It’s close to 2 months that I’ve been avoiding the gym to increase social distancing. In this anxious & hectic time, we wanna stay healthy & happy. Personally, I’ve been invested in working out from home ever since and I can’t recommend it highly enough. Exercising always lifts my spirit, leaves me feeling more relaxed, and helps me sleep better at night. Since we’re committed to staying at home for a little while, here’s a full body workout I did yesterday that got me sweating buckets 🔥 HIIT CIRCUITS (Each circuit lasts 7 mins. Repeat as many of the 4 movements within the 7 mins. Diving into Monday like... ::: In other matters, I hope that you’re all well —taking the necessary precautions, staying strong mentally, and keeping yourselves healthy while social distancing ::: These are trying times that test our humanity. Will we be able to look back and see that we were able to forsake our selfish interests for the good of others? Were we helpful to the vulnerable and those who needed that help the most? What’s really interesting about Covid-19, is seeing individuals, who are climate change & social injustice advocates, still travelling, heading to events, and out at busy joints. My hope is that we’ll dig deep as individuals and collectively as a community to find it in us to be selfless and more thoughtful of others — if we all pitch in (just like recycling, pollution, & climate change), we will stop the spread of this virus. If you’re young and have no pre-existing medical conditions, you probably won’t die from this. But by travelling, catching up with friends over dinner, going to a party, you run the risk of catching the virus and unknowingly pass it along to others who may be susceptible to severe complications from the virus ::: So work, walk your dog (or yourself) exercise, read books, play video games, Netflix, spend time with your kids, sketch, think, write, cook, sleep, play music, dance in your living room, sing, listen to music, text/message/FaceTime friends, do nothing but STAY HOME. Surround yourself with Positive, Nourishing & Uplifting people✨ (double tap if you agree!) • Ray Goforth has this quote that really stuck with me, it aptly sums up some of the many voices that we will most likely come across in our endeavours to succeed, for the most part, these voices come from a place of insecurity, a lack of imagination, or simply fear—— “There are two types of people who will tell you that you cannot make a difference in this world: those who are afraid to try and those who are afraid you will succeed” -Ray Goforth • Putting myself out here on a public platform means opening myself up to criticism and judgements. I get that our brains are wired to make automatic judgements about others’ and so whenever I’m faced with negativity, I move on without spending too much energy or give it power. Of course, there are those times I have to remind myself that when you’re doing the big, hard work, people will notice and sometimes it won’t be the RIGHT people, but when you can learn to channel your focus on the good, keep an open heart & mind, and protect your energy to be poured into the right things, you’ll become more convicted in your message and you’ll be more prepared to stand/fight for what you really believe in. I’ve found that where there is success (or happiness in doing something original / unconventional) ugly things can creep in. These days, we’re fighting “faceless” battles, those behind our screens that people never see • Thank goodness, for the most parts, I have you, my supportive tribe to thank for your positively upbeat emails/DMs for me to go back to during the hard days. Thank you for showing up to join me in pursuit of my biggest, boldest, and badassness dreams, in a world that can sometimes seem like a scary, harsh, and unkind place.
